Registered agent FAQ

What does a registered agent actually do?
A registered agent is your business's official point of contact with the state. They accept service of process (lawsuits), state correspondence and compliance reminders at a physical street address in your state during business hours, and forward them to you. Every LLC and corporation is required to maintain one.
Can I be my own registered agent?
In most states, yes — but your name and street address become public record, you must be available at that address during all business hours, and missing a lawsuit delivery can mean a default judgment against your business. A professional service keeps your home address off public filings and makes sure nothing is missed.
Why is The Doc Rocket $89.95 when others charge $125–$249?
Registered agent service is largely the same legal function everywhere: a physical address, mail scanning and forwarding, and compliance reminders. We price it at cost-plus instead of using a cheap first year to lock in a high renewal. The price is the price, every year.
What happens if I don't maintain a registered agent?
The state can administratively dissolve your LLC or corporation, you lose good standing (which banks and contracts check), and you can miss a lawsuit and lose by default. Reinstatement fees and hassle cost far more than the service itself.

The Doc Rocket provides registered agent and document services, not legal advice. State requirements change — confirm current rules with your state's filing office.
